What is a blog
Decide as a class why you would want to have a blog
Letter home to parents - share link and how to add a comment.
Steps
Start by creating the class posts, adding photos. Teacher writing about events, news, learning in the classroom.
Add a blog post as a shared writing task - have the class blog up on the whiteboard work with the class to create the post. Think Aloud
Encourage the parents to read and make a comment - have incentives
Share examples og great student work - add tags
Use the blog to communicate with parents about homework tasks, upcoming class events etc
Get the parents involved - ask them to send in photos and news stories to add to the class blog. (send the class mascot home with a student - get them to take a photo, upload to blog and student can write an explaination)
Move to students writing blog posts independently.
Read other class blogs, learn how to add quality comments
Develop the blog as a learning hub for the class with links to online learning activities and information (add pages for reading links, maths links, writing links, inquiry learning websites etc)
Add different features to the blog, video, PhotoPeach slideshows, embed student created stories,
Join QuadBlogging to collaborate with another class / school to get quality feedback around the student learning
If the school has a GAFE account then the students can be setup with their own individual blog. This can become their e-portfolio - a record of their learning.
